The Trauma of Everyday Racism (in english)

Originally the word ´trauma‘ is derived from the Greek word meaning wound or injury. The term includes the idea of harm and pain. Trauma has been rarely discussed within the contexts of (Post-) Colonialism and Racism – what reveals the little importance that it has been given to the history of racial oppression and the psychological consequences suffered by the oppressed. In this lecture I will explore Trauma in the context of Everyday Racism, and I will look at racism as a sequential trau-matic experience which imprisons the Black person in discourses of inferiority and alienation.

Biography:
Grada Ferreira; Psychologist, doing research and teaching “Race, Gender and Racism – from a Black Perspective” , at the Humboldt University Berlin, department of Gender Studies.
